Tim Bret-Day on his mixed-media artwork: "I found a set of twenty contact sheets and a box of images from the early eighties whilst clearing out my mother’s house. Music had been my initial move into photography from playing in bands. Amidst this be-cobwebbed treasure trove were various drawings and memories which I thought were lost. I had a few prints but hardly any negs from this flashback period of my life, so I decided upon restoration both of my old drum kit and these fragments of the early beginnings in photography. Love letters, poems, museum tickets, even before and after images of operations that my dad had performed. It was cathartic and for some reason once i mounted them on my desk and built the tableau to make a copy, they each began to tell a story...disconnected maybe but everything had a balance. Like that period of musical history itself - serious political commentary to superfluous glam, The Clash to Duran Duran, U2 to Adam Ant. Memories from the cobwebbed box."
