Phil Knott on photographing Guru: “I’d just left college, just got my first agent, Guru was doing Jazzmatazz Vol. 2, he turned up in Kensal Rise. We shot him in the garage, shot him in the street, I just thought it was really funny to see an American dude like Guru in my hood in West London…and I just liked the idea of him out of context. But then we decided to do this in the studio, trying to make something classic and timeless, by removing the background, not giving an indication of anything.”
